Renowned economist to headline Frost Lecture Series Jan. 15

(Dec. 19, 2002)--Famed Reaganomics economist Arthur B. Laffer will highlight the 2003 Frost Bank Distinguished Lecture Series at 10 a.m. Jan. 15 in the Business Building Auditorium.

Laffer, who created the Laffer Curve, is the founder and chairman of Laffer Associates, an economic research and consulting firm that provides investment-research services.

Laffer's economic prowess and influence in triggering a worldwide tax-cutting movement in the 1980s have earned him the distinction as "The Father of Supply-Side Economics." One of his earliest successes in shaping public policy was his involvement in Proposition 13, the groundbreaking California initiative that drastically cut property taxes in the state in 1978.

Years of experience and success in advising on a governmental level have distinguished Laffer. During the Reagan administration, he was a founding member of the Congressional Economic Policy Board and provided the thought and ideology that served as the foundation for the President's economic policy.

Laffer was formerly the Distinguished University Professor at Pepperdine University and a member of the Pepperdine Board of Directors. He received a bachelor's degree in economics from Yale University and a master's of business administration and doctorate in economics from Stanford University.
