MAES featured on U.S. Department of Education news program

(Dec. 18, 2002)--The University of Texas at San Antonio's student chapter of the Society of Mexican American Engineers will be featured on a news program for their outstanding achievements and contributions in San Antonio and the South Texas region. Public television statation KLRN will air the broadcast at noon Thursday, Dec. 19.

The U.S. Department of Education's "Education News" program will focus on MAES' fourth annual Engineering and Science Extravaganza last July which helped expose over 1,600 middle and high school students to information about careers in math, science and engineering. Students representing San Antonio, Laredo and Lubbock had the opportunity to conduct hands-on science experiments and witness 50 interactive presentations.

UTSA's MAES student chapter recently received the Outstanding Chapter of the Year award at an international symposium in Anaheim, Calif. Three members of the MAES organization placed first in a research design competition by Ford Motor Co. UTSA's MAES team won the competition two of the last three years.
