President Ricardo Romo with Jesse Trevino painting, "The Printer"
Painting helps raise graduate scholarship money
(Feb. 7, 2002)--"The Printer," a painting by San Antonio artist and UTSA alumnus Jesse Trevino, is a colorful portrait of legendary West side printer and el padrino de politica Ruben Munguia. The painting was commissioned by Bert Cecconi, a local dentist, and then donated to UTSA in 2001.
Cecconi also had 90 signed and numbered prints created of the painting to be presented to those who contribute $1,000 or more to the Ruben Munguia Graduate Scholarship fund, earmarked for students pursuing a master's degree in political science or public administration at the university.
"The Printer" is now on display in the reception area of the Vice Provost's office on the 4th floor of the Frio Street Building at the Downtown Campus.

Inventory bar-coding is coming to UTSA
(Feb. 7, 2002)--The UTSA inventory department is improving the annual inventory process. Within the next two months a third party contractor will start the Bar-coding Project. Their team will be sweeping the university, building by building, to account for all capital inventory and add new bar-coded labels.
It will be very important that they are given all access necessary, so no items are overlooked. Departments will not be required to do a manual inventory this year, since the contractors will fulfill this obligation. However, departments will be asked to provide assistance while the contractors are in their areas, verify their inventory and account for any items that are not found by the contractor.
In subsequent years, departments will be required to check out scanners from Inventory to complete their annual inventory. Additionally, beginning in FY 2002-03, UTSA will conduct 20-percent annual audits to verify the accuracy of departmentally reported inventories. All university equipment kept off campus will need to be returned for verification and bar-coding. The exact schedule for these activities has not been determined, but will be publicized as soon as it is available.
Departments are strongly encouraged to start verifying equipment locations and updating removal of equipment forms now. Accountability and responsibility of capital inventory needs to be strengthened at the department level. Training for all departments will be provided.
Stay tuned for more details and watch for the new Inventory Office on West Campus.
