Perez promoted to director of UTSA K-16 Initiatives

(Feb. 4, 2002)--The University of Texas at San Antonio announces the promotion of Eyra Perez to director of the UTSA K-16 Initiatives Office, which coordinates student and professional development outreach programs and provides leadership in education reform of local public schools.

In the position, Perez will enhance UTSA efforts to work with the schools and communities from throughout San Antonio and South Texas, according to Richard A. Diem, UTSA vice provost for K-16 Initiatives.

Perez formerly was associate director of the UTSA Alliance for Education and also is a former associate director of the UTSA Prefreshman Engineering Program.

A San Antonio native, Perez attended Lanier High School and received a bachelor's degree in mathematics at Our Lady of the Lake University. Her master's in educational leadership and administration was earned at UTSA.

In 2000, she was awarded the first Richard S. Howe Excellence in Service to Undergraduate Students Award at UTSA. She was recognized as one of the "40 Under 40 Rising Stars" for 1998 by the San Antonio Business Journal and was selected for "Who's Who In American Teachers" in 1996, 1997 and 1998. Perez also serves on many boards and committees that involve K-16 educational issues and reform.
