Readers needed for Read Across America's Dr. Seuss day

(Feb. 14, 2002)--Who will read stories for Dr. Seuss' birthday celebration? It could be you. Volunteers are needed to serve as special guest readers for local school children during UTSA's Read Across America celebration, honoring the 98th birthday of Dr. Seuss, on March 1. Both English and Spanish-speaking readers are needed.

The volunteers will read Dr. Seuss stories in English and Spanish to local elementary school students as part of Read Across America Day, observed annually on Dr. Seuss' birthday.

The event is sponsored by the university's America Reads Tutoring Program. UTSA's America Reads Tutoring Program employs student tutors who regularly work with several hundred local elementary school youngsters.

For more details or to volunteer, contact Christella Ramos, K-16 Initiatives, at (210) 458-2766.
