Admissions team implements new student information system

(Jan. 4, 2002)--Live at UTSA... it's BANNER-2000! Right before Halloween last year, UTSA's student admissions team got a treat. That area became the first part of the university to use BANNER-2000, the new student information system selected by the university in the summer of 2000.

Created by Systems and Computer Technology, which has been developing similar programs for use in higher education for more than 25 years, BANNER-2000 offers more user options and faster response times than does NATISIS, the system used by UTSA for more than 16 years.

BANNER-2000 is being integrated incrementally by service area/function over the next 15-18 months to allow time for staff training and transition, according to Jeffrey Noyes, chief information officer and associate vice president for information technology. The first phase involved admissions information on new and transfer students who are enrolling for summer 2002 semesters and beyond.

Catalog and scheduling came online in November, with financial aid services scheduled for February and registration and fiscal services for March/April, acording to Noyes. Degree auditing and advising services are scheduled to begin using the new system by this summer.
