Sombrilla magazine, Spring 2000
UTSA wins CASE publications awards
(July 23, 2002)--Sombrilla, a publication for alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the University of Texas at San Antonio, received a Circle of Excellence Award from the Council for Advancement of Education (CASE), a professional organization for university officials in public affairs, development and alumni relations. The award was announced at the CASE International Assembly held July 6-9 in Chicago.
The third place award was one of 28 entries in a category for oversized or tabloid periodicals. Caltech News (University of California Institute of Technology) and Och Tamale (University of Redlands) received first and second place awards in this category.
"We're always looking for ways to improve Sombrilla--that is, for ways to better tell our readers about this growing and changing university. It's an exciting time to be at UTSA. With the continued support of our administration, we plan to keep using our creative expertise to accomplish our goals, said Lynn Gosnell, Sombrilla's editor.
In April, UTSA received 10 awards for its publications during the annual
contest sponsored by CASE District IV, which comprises Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas,
Oklahoma, New Mexico and Mexico. Sombrilla was recognized for its feature
writing, medical/scientific writing, design, photography and overall excellence.
"UTSA is very fortunate to have a publication like Sombrilla to tell
our story to alumni, faculty, students, staff and friends of the university,"
said David Gabler, assistant vice president for university communications.
"These awards and honors are well deserved by all who work to publish
the magazine."
