Business card with new UTSA logo
New official UTSA logo to be effective Sept. 1
(July 23, 2002)--UTSA President Ricardo Romo and the Budget Council have approved a new modified graphic design for UTSA letterhead stationery, envelopes and business cards that are ordered on the Print Revolution on-line ordering system. The modified design will use the UTSA word mark in place of the "Sombrilla" icon currently used and will feature the easily recognizable "UTSA" and "The University of Texas at San Antonio."
The UTSA word mark is an official logo and is instantly recognizable as the symbol of the university. It will be used in conjunction with The University of Texas at San Antonio signature type style. The word mark will be used in all publications, advertising and official university Web pages. The "Sombrilla" icon, in use since the mid-1990s, will remain on vehicle decals, certain signs and architectural pieces. The university has no plans at this time to eliminate its use entirely.
There will be no change in ordering procedures to the Print Revolution on-line ordering system. New templates have been prepared and the reprogramming of the on-line system will be completed by mid-August. New orders for the modified stationery will be available on Sept. 1, 2002. The new design templates will display exactly as the existing templates in the current system.
An improved feature on the business card is the availability of up to eight lines for multiple telephone, fax, cellular and e-mail listings on each card. This feature has been added to accommodate faculty and staff members who maintain offices at multiple locations.
Mailing labels will use the same two-color design as the business envelope at a nominal increase in cost.
Each department and individual should use all existing supplies of current
letterhead stationery, envelopes and business cards before placing orders
for the new design. These supplies should not be merely discarded to obtain
the new stationery. If additional stationery is needed before Sept. 1, please
order only minimum quantities to last until the end of the fiscal year.
Individuals with questions about the graphic design change should contact
the Office of University Publications at (210) 458-4550.
"As we approach the new fiscal year and heightened efforts to increase the university's visibility, we believe this is an optimal time to make this change," said David Gabler, assistant vice president for university communications. "I also believe 'UTSA' represents the three campuses better than the 'Sombrilla' logo, which was designed prior to the existence of UTSA's Downtown Campus on Frio Street."
