UTSA praised as quality institution of higher education
(July 24, 2002)--Texas Comptroller Carole Keeton Rylander and senior economic advisers from her staff, joined by Bexar Country Judge Nelson Wolff, held a public hearing at the UTSA Downtown Campus on the economic outlook for the Alamo Region, including Bexar and 11 surrounding counties.
Rylander told the audience that San Antonio and Bexar County have fared better than the state, on average, in revenue recovery since Sept. 11. She added Texas is also No. 3 in the nation, following only Nevada and Florida, in creation of new jobs since December of last year.
She praised UTSA as a quality institution of higher learning, adding that the need for a larger college-educated workforce will only increase nationwide, but particularly in Texas, where 12 of 25 predicted job-growth areas will require a post-secondary education.
UTSA College of Business Dean Bruce Bublitz asked the first follow-up question of the panel on the topic of possible plans for the state to invest resources to help Texas advance as a national leader in cyber-terror countermeasures.
