UTSA mourns loss of accomplished music alumna

(June 12, 2002)--The UTSA community mourns the loss of '90 and '96 alumna Marian Nixon Braubach, who died Saturday in San Antonio at age 83. Inspiring both peers and faculty, Braubach earned UTSA bachelor of arts in music and master of music degrees at the respective ages of 72 and 78.

"She was a wonderful, warm person who had a true dedication to music," said Joe Stuessy, Department of Music chair. "She was in several of my music theory classes while she was working toward her bachelor of music degree. She was serious about her studies and completely responsible about everything from attendance to homework assignments. In 2001, the music faculty gave her an award as an Outstanding Alumna of the music program."

According to the San Antonio Express-News, Braubach was also an active community and civic leader. Her involvement with the Tuesday Musical Club led to several duo-piano performances as well as the completion of "Always on Tuesday:100 Years of Music," a book which discusses the club's cultural contributions to San Antonio.

Her sister, Jean Nixon Fish, two daughters, Beverly Braubach Bentley and Mary Ann Braubach Olodort, as well as four grandchildren survive her. A memorial service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. June 18 at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church.
