College of Sciences Advising Center to host nursing information session

(June 3, 2002)--The UTSA College of Sciences Advising Center will host a nursing information session from 2-4:30 p.m. June 10, with a 1:30 p.m. check-in, in Business Building Room 3.01.12 on the 1604 Campus.

All members of the Tri-Campus community and the public are invited to attend. Participants will have an opportunity to talk with nursing school representatives, UTSA science advisors and a UTSA career services representative to learn about nursing programs, prerequisites, application, financial aid options, scholarship information, job placement and career opportunities.

Representatives from the Baptist Health System Schools, San Antonio College, St. Philip's College, University of the Incarnate Word, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Nursing and the Army Health Professions Scholarship Program will be available for questions.

To make a reservation for the session, call (210) 458-4045 or go to the College of Sciences Advising Center at Science Building Room 2.01.08 on the UTSA 1604 Campus. Reservations must be received by Wednesday, June 5.

$500 faculty grants available from Teaching and Learning Center

(June 3, 2002)--The Teaching and Learning Center is accepting one-page grant proposals from UTSA faculty through June 10. Grants of $500 each will be awarded to faculty who participate in the Master WebCT User seminar this summer and agree to present their Web-based or Web-enhanced courses at the end of the Fall 2002 semester.

Proposals should discuss a course to be developed or enhanced, the rationale for making course materials available on the Internet and a brief summary of the faculty member's previous experience with WebCT and/or other Web development tools.

Microsoft software available at University Center information desk

(June 3, 2002)--The University Center Information Desk's stock of Microsoft software has just been replenished and is available to UTSA students, faculty and staff at prices ranging from $8.09 to $48.54. Note that the current contract with Microsoft ends Aug. 29, and renewal negotiations are under way.

UTSA Police extends grace period for student parking violations

(June 3, 2002)--Due to a delay in the printing of summer parking permits, the UTSA Police Department will extend the grace period until 5:30 p.m., June 13, and will not issue parking citations for "no parking permit" violations for students only.

All parking violations other than those for "no parking permit" will be fully enforced during the grace period. Effective 8 a.m., June 14, the UTSA Police Department will begin enforcing the permit requirement.

Health services requests donations in June 18-19 blood drive

(June 3, 2002)--The summer blood drive sponsored by the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center and UTSA Student Health Services will be11:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, June 18-19, in the Business Building University Room (2.06.04).

The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center is in need of donors due to a shortage of blood during the summer months.

Quick TASP offered June 6

(June 3, 2002)--If you are a UTSA students who would like to fulfill the TASP test requirement this month, the answer is Quick TASP. Those interested must register and pay at Testing Services prior to the test date, due to no same-day registration. Participants must bring two checks or money orders to the Testing Services offices, one for $15.00 made out to "UTSA" and a second for $29.00 made out to "NES." Students must have their student ID availbable when registering and on test day.

William Ruff dissertation defense set for June 28

(June 3, 2002)--The final dissertation defense for William Ruff, candidate for a doctorate degree in educational leadership, will be 9-11 a.m., Friday, June 28, in Multidisciplinary Studies Building Room 4.03.60. The dissertation title is "Constructing the Role of Instructional Leader: The Mental Models of Urban Elementary School

Oscar Casares named as Dobie Paisano fellow

(June 3, 2002)--Oscar Casares, lecturer in the Department of English, Classics, and Philosophy, has been named a Dobie Paisano Fellow for 2002-03. This prestigious award includes a residency at the Paisano acreage located fourteen miles southwest of Austin. The Texas Institute of Letters members serve on the selection committee, and the fellowship encourages deserving writers in their work. The fellowship is highly competitive and a great honor.
