Kay Cavanaugh
UTSA graduate named NISD deputy superintendent
(June 12, 2002)--Kay Cavanaugh, Northside Independent School District assistant superintendent for elementary administration, was named deputy superintendent for administration by the NISD Board of Trustees. Cavanaugh, who received her master's degree at UTSA, replaces Dean Krueger, who is retiring. The appointment is effective July 1.
During her 30-year tenure at NISD, Cavanaugh served as principal of Fernandez Elementary, vice principal of Scobee Elementary, vice principal of Elrod Elementary, and as a teacher at Scobee and Esparza elementary schools. She also taught at Trinity University Motor Lab and Cannon Elementary School in Grapevine.
Cavanaugh received her bachelor's degree from Hardin-Simmons University, her master's degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio, her mid-management and supervision certification from Trinity University, and her superintendent certification from The University of Texas at San Antonio.
As deputy superintendent for administration, Cavanaugh will be responsible for policies and procedures; 86 school principals; the Administrative Internship Management (AIM) program, which mentors potential future leaders in the district; the School Boundary Advisory Committee, working with Northside parents on changes in school attendance zones; and serve as the lead person on maintaining the district's Crisis Resource Manual and planned responses.

Cavanaugh stated. "I look forward to the opportunity to work closely
with our new superintendent and hope to contribute to the reputation of excellence
that Northside is known for."
