UTSA names new head of human resources

(June 20, 2002)--Following a national search for a new associate vice president for human resources and management development, the University of Texas at San Antonio recently appointed a former Sony official as its new head of human resources and at the university. Barbara Ettipio, formerly a director of human resources at Sony Corporation, begins her new duties immediately.

"The university is very fortunate to have someone of Barbara's caliber join the administrative team at UTSA," said Jerry Barloco, vice president for administration. "Her experience and skill in the area of human resource management are crucial to our organization as it continues to be one of the fastest growing universities in the state."

An author and instructor on the subject of human resource management, Ettipio earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Niagara (New York) University. Later, she earned a master's degree in health care administration from Trinity University and an MBA from St. Mary's University. Ettipio has certification as a Six Sigma Green Belt and is a certified compensation professional. She has taught at University of the Incarnate Word, Our Lady of the Lake University and other colleges in San Antonio.

"I am very excited to join UTSA and work with the great team of employees responsible for human resource management at the three campuses," Ettipio said. "It is my hope that we can immediately assess our strong points in human resources and put into place additional initiatives to take UTSA to the next level. Strategic planning is crucial to the success of all employees at the university."

Ettipio serves on the board of the San Antonio Society to Prevent Blindness, and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management.
