UTSA community invited to Howe awards presentations

(June 10, 2002)--All members of the Tri-Campus community are encouraged to attend the presentation of the Richard S. Howe Excellence in Service to Undergraduate Students Awards at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 12 in the Business Building University Room (2.06.04) on the 1604 Campus.

The reception will include ice cream sundaes and other cool refreshments.

Nearly 200 people were nominated for the honor, either individually or as part of a team, for going beyond the call of duty in their service and commitment to student success. Honorees will receive cash awards. Established by a gift to the university by Mrs. Walter W. McAllister Jr., the awards are named in honor of longtime engineering professor Richard Howe, who retired last year, and recognize extraordinary faculty or staff contributions to the education and academic experience of UTSA's undergraduate students.

Selection criteria were based on information provided in letters of nomination. Nominees must have demonstrated a vibrant commitment to teaching and/or service to undergraduates; an advocacy for undergraduate education; and participation in activities to promote student access and success. Only current employees were eligible for nomination.

Community members and others needing a parking pass can download and print an invitation/parking pass in Microsoft Word format. Please print the document and place on your dashboard when coming to the 1604 Campus. Parking will be available in Lot 4 adjacent to the Business Building, except in spaces marked "Reserved 24 hours."
