Students from across Texas attend student leadership conference

(March 14, 2002)--More than 100 college and university students from across Texas attended a recent student leadership conference sponsored by the UTSA Bilingual Education Student Organization (BESO) and held at the Downtown Campus.

Conference presenters addressed a variety of issues, including education, economics, legislation and advocacy for the education of language-minority students. The UTSA BESO board organized the event with assistance from the Texas Association for BilIngual Eduction (TABE). The TABE President praised the conference, calling it "one of the best organized functions" he had witnessed in his 30-year career.

Also providing support for the event were Michelle Montanio, assistant director of the Office of Student Leadership and Cultural Programs at the Downtown Campus, and the Academic Technology team.
