Education dean to be honored by president of Mexico

(March 7, 2002)--The San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce announced Friday that College of Education and Human Development Dean Blandina Cardenas will be one of five San Antonio women recognized by Mexico's President Vicente Fox at the International Day of the Woman celebration in Mexico City March 8.

The annual event recognizes the contributions to society made by women of Mexican-American descent. After the ceremony, Cardenas and the other honorees will meet with Jorge Castaneda, Mexico's secretary of foreign relations.

The other local honorees are state Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce President Rita Elizondo, San Antonio Express-News Vice President of Community Relations Veronica Salazar and Latinos in Accion President Bertha Valdez de Salinas.
