Freud and Oedipus... University of Houston professor sets the stage March 20
(March 19, 2002)--University of Houston faculty member Richard Armstrong will present "Oedipus at Paris and Vienna: Sigmund Freud and Sophocles in Performance" at 4 p.m. March 20 on the 1604 Campus in Business Building Room 3.04.18.
Armstrong will explore how Freud's experience as a theater-goer informed his theorization of the Oedipus Complex. The lecture, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the UTSA classics program, with support from the Department of English, Classics and Philosophy.

Student Health Services offers blood drive, health fair
(March 19, 2002)--UTSA Student Health Services will conduct a Mini-Health Fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, March 27 at the University Center second floor coridor on the 1604 Campus.
A blood drive will be held Wednesday, March 20 11:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at the University Center Laurel Room on the 1604 Campus.

UTSA holds job fair for educators on March 20
(March 19, 2002)--The Advising, Certification and Placement Center of the UTSA College of Education and Human Development will sponsor an Educator Job Fair 12:30-3:30 p.m. March 20 on the 1604 Campus in the Convocation Center.
Representatives of more than 70 school districts from Texas and other states will be on hand recruiting for their institutions. All local educators and UTSA students, faculty, staff and alumni are welcome. Professional attire is recommended.

Spring career fair set for March 21 at 1604 Campus
(March 19, 2002)--Recruiters have begun their annual spring visits to UTSA, which will continue through April, and many employers will also take part in the spring Career Fair on March 21.
Seniors planning to graduate this year are or those who are looking for internships are strongly encouraged to check the Career Services Web site for weekly updates on Career Fair companies, on-campus interview schedules and job search workshops.
Seniors who have registered with career services can sign up for employment interviews online and also take advantage of individualized services and workshops (open to all students) to help them get prepared for success. Access the workshop schedule online.

"Colonial archaeology" is theme of this year's summer camps
(March 19, 2002)--For the sixth year, the Center for Archaeological Research will hold week-long summer camps for children. The theme for this year's camps is "colonial archaeology." Cost for a camp is $175, including supplies, shirt and snacks.
Camp 1 will be held 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. June 3-7 for ages 6-8, entering grades 1-3.
Camp 2 will be held 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. June 17-21 for ages 9-11, entering grades
4-6.

UTSA students, community college students eligible for LSAMP programs
(March 19, 2002)--Full-time UTSA students who are majoring in science, mathematics, engineering or technology are invited to apply for the 2002-03 Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Student Research Program.
Open to current UTSA students who are U. S. citizens or permanent residents, the program requires participants to have completed a minimum of 60 semester hours with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Participants will receive a $600 monthly stipend throughout the program, which runs June 1, 2002-July 31, 2003, and funding to attend one conference or workshop during the year.
Texas community college students who are majoring in science, mathematics or technology and who plan to enter UTSA during the next academic year are invited to apply to the LSAMP Summer Bridge Program, which will be held at UTSA June 1-July 31.
Open to current Texas community college students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, the program requires participants to have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Participants will receive a $1,000 stipend, tuition and fees for one technical course for either summer school session and a $100 book/supplies allowance for the course.
In addition to faculty mentoring and an introduction to life on a university
campus, students will be able to do research. Both programs were established
at UTSA through funding from the National Science Foundation.
Completed application packets for either program must be submitted to the
UTSA Office of K-16 Initiatives and Honors College by April 1.

Women's Final Four needs volunteers
(March 19, 2002)--The organizing committee for the 2002 Women's Final Four Basketball Tournament, which will be held in San Antonio March 25-31, needs about 2,000 volunteers to assist with the event and its related activities.
Members of UTSA Blue Crew are being recruited, and there are volunteer opportunities for faculty and staff from throughout the Tri-Campuses. Visit the 2002 Women's Final Four Web site to read more about Final Four volunteer opportunities and to download an application form.

San Antonio Spurs offer "UTSA Night"
(March 19, 2002)--The UTSA Alumni Association is teaming up with the San
Antonio Spurs to invite UTSA staff, students and alumni to "UTSA Night"
to watch the Spurs "turn off the Heat" at the Spurs vs. Miami Heat
game Saturday, March 23.
A 6 p.m. reception in the Alamodome Meeting rooms will precede the 7:30 p.m. game tip-off. Admission is $25 for Alumni Association members and $28 for non-members (includes game ticket and reception). Deduct $14.50 if you already have Spurs tickets. Tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Texas Folklife Festival 2002 needs you
(March 19, 2002)--The 31st annual Texas Folklife Festival needs volunteer hands, and lots of 'em. This year's event will be June 6-9 at the Institute of Texan Cultures.
Volunteers receive free admission for all four days of the festival. Volunteers will need to attend a pre-event training session. There is no deadline to apply.
