Environmental science student wins at GIS competition
(March 27, 2002)--Environmental science graduate student Marilyn Pfeifer recently won second place in the multi-state graduate student Geographic Information Systems (GIS) competition. Her research in developing predictive GIS models beat out graduate students from five states and two U.S. territories.
A plaque and $500 award were presented at the awards dinner of the 12th Annual South Central Arc Users Conference in Fort Worth. Last year, UTSA students took first and third place honors in the competition.
"I think this demonstates that UTSA is fast becoming a national leader
in this technology," said Stephen Brown, assistant professor of
environmental science.
