Women's basketball at home tonight in Southland tourney
(March 5, 2002)--The UTSA Roadrunner women's basketball team takes on Southeast Louisiana at 7 p.m. tonight at the Convocation Center in the opening round of the Southland Conference Tournament. The Roadrunners come into the game on a roll winning their last six games including a 56-41 victory over Southwest Texas State University over the weekend in San Marcos.
UTSA President Ricardo Romo is offering free pizza to students who show up early for tonight's women's basketball game. There will be free pizza beginning at 6:15 p.m. for Blue Crew members and other students. Pizza service will end 10 minutes before game time, so come early, eat lots and get Rowdy with the Roadrunners!
It's time for true Roadrunners to become too blue tonight in the UTSA Convocation Center. Blue suede shoes. Blue Hawaii shirts. Men and women in blue. Blue Crew shirts will be available for only $5 tonight , and the UTSA student who is the most true blue will get a chance to scramble for $50 at halftime.
For the first time, the Southland Conference will allow students to enter its post-season tournament free. If your organization wants to sit together as a group, please get to the Convocation Center ticket office by 6 p.m. So get your organizations, your dorm, your fraternity, your sorority, your friends, your neighbors and let's turn the Convocation Center into the wild blue yonder!
Sophomore center Nikki Hendrix earned Southland Conference Player of the week honors at the end of the regular season with her 21 points and five rebounds a game average in two road games at Southeast Louisiana and Nicholls State. The women will try to follow the footsteps of the men's basketball team who advanced to the second round last night with their 99-83 win over Southwest Texas State University in the men's opening round game of the Southland Conference Tournament.
Seniors Devin Brown and McEverett Powers combined for 57 points to vault the Roadrunners into the second round where they will take on the No. 2 seed in Louisiana-Monroe on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Ewing Coliseum in Monroe, La.
