UTSA
hosts first round of Southland Conference Tournament tonight
(March 4, 2002)--The UTSA Roadrunner men's basketball team hosts the opening game of the Southland Conference Tournament tonight when the Roadrunners take on Southwest Texas State University at 7 p.m in the Convocation Center.
UTSA comes in as the No. 3 seed with a 18-9 record, 13-7 in conference play. No. 6 seed SWT brings a 12-15 season record, 10-10 in conference standings.
The Roadrunners ended the regular season with a 70-59 loss in San Marcos and hope to turn the tables when the two revisit each other tonight on UTSA's home court.
Southland Conference Player of the Year McEverett Powers looks for another memorable performance in tournament play. Last year, he hit a 15-foot jumper with 0.4 seconds left in the game to advance the Roadrunners to the second round of the tournament.
The Roadrunners bring plenty of experience to the court with four starting seniors in Powers, Reggie Minnieweather, James Joseph and UTSA's All-Time leading scorer Devin Brown.
Both UTSA basketball teams finished the Southland Conference regular season in third place and will host first-round SLC post-season tournament games. The women (16-11, 15-5) will play Southeastern Louisiana (9-18, 8-12) at 7 p.m., Tuesday. Tickets are $10 for reserved seating and $7 for general admission. To order tickets for the tournament games, call 458-4646.
True Roadrunners are Two Too Blue
For the next Two nights in the UTSA Convocation Center, its time for
true Roadrunners to become Too blue. Blue suede shoes. Blue Hawaii shirts.
Men (and women) in blue. But please, No blue moons!
Its time for Convo blue heaven! The first 1,000 people wearing blue
will receive a Rowdy rear window sticker. Everyone wearing a Blue Crew shirt
will receive $1 in Roadrunner Cash for the concession stand. (Blue Crew shirts
will be available for only $5 at both games.) And the UTSA student who is
the most true blue will get a chance to scramble for $50 at halftime of both
games.
For the first time, the Southland Conference will allow students to enter
its post-season tournament FREE. If your organization wants to sit together
as a group, please get to the Convocation Center ticket office by 6 p.m.
So get your organizations, your dorm, your fraternity, your sorority, your
friends and your neighbors. Dress them in blue for the next two nights. And
lets turn the Convocation Center into the wild blue yonder!
UTSA Roadrunner men's basketball games can be heard on KTKR 760-AM, KGNB 1420-AM
