Saturday's commencement will feature a new stage and seating for graduation candidates. Physical plant workers raise the framework for a large tent that will be outside the Convocation Center.

Commencement will have a new and improved look

(May 9, 2002)--Spectators stepping into the UTSA Convocation Center for Saturday's commencement ceremonies will notice a new stage, seating and backdrop for the event.

Graduation candidates will sit on 1,000 new UTSA-blue chairs, complete with safety interlocks. They will walk on a new platform designed to give the audience a better view of the ceremonies, see new chairs and tables purchased strictly for use at commencement ceremonies and notice a new backdrop.

Workers from the Tri-Campus community have worked this week to complete arrangements for the May 11 ceremonies at the Convocation Center on the 1604 Campus. The workers are assembling four tents at the south entrance to the Convocation Center, as was done for the December 2001 ceremonies, to provide shade and protection from inclement weather. Signs are also being placed on I-10 and Loop 1604 to guide visitors to parking areas to help prevent traffic snarls at UTSA Boulevard.
