UTSA to host regional meeting on Higher Education Act
(May 23, 2002)--The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) is holding regional meetings nationwide to discuss the pending Congressional reauthorization of the Higher Education Act (HEA), considered the chief vehicle for targeting multi-million dollar funding to all Hispanic serving institutions of higher education.
Congress and advocacy organizations already are debating proposed changes that will be considered before a final reauthorization vote by the 108th Congress next year. HACU will call for expanded language and funding authorization levels under specific provisions of the HEA, including institutional development, teacher education, financial aid, immigration education policies, graduate education, technology infrastructure, research support and international education.
UTSA is hosting the meeting for Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and Oklahoma, which will be May 29 at the Downtown Campus in the Buena Vista Street Building Meeting/Assembly Room.
Members of the Tri-Campus community and the public are invited, as space permits. Those planning to attend the Wednesday conference are asked to RSVP to Gina Mendez, 458-2712.
