Nominations sought for Howe excellence-in-service award
(May 13, 2002)--Members of the Tri-Campus community are invited to nominate individuals or work teams who have gone beyond the call of duty in their service and commitment to student success for the Richard S. Howe Excellence in Service to Undergraduate Students Award.
Winners of the cash awards could receive up to $2,000. This year's honorees will be recognized at a reception on June 12. Established by a gift to the university by Mrs. Walter W. McAllister Jr., the awards are named in honor of longtime engineering professor Richard Howe, who retired last year, and recognize extraordinary faculty or staff contributions to the education and academic experience of UTSA's undergraduate students.
Selection criteria will be based on information provided in a letter of nomination. Letters of nomination should include the nominee's name or names, if a team award, position(s) and department(s); reasons for the nomination, stated in 100 words or fewer; and the name and phone number of the person submitting the nomination.
Nominees must have demonstrated a vibrant commitment to teaching and/or service to undergraduates; an advocacy for undergraduate education; and participation in activities to promote student access and success. Only current employees are eligible for nomination.
Nominations must be submitted by May 24 to the UTSA Development Office, located in John Peace Library Building Room 4.02.08 at the 1604 Campus. For more information, call 458-4130.
