UTSA committee evaluates JPL space utilization
(May 16, 2002)--A university committee appointed by President Ricardo Romo recently evaluated the use of space on the first floor of the John Peace Library Building (JPL) and is seeking university community input concerning proposed changes.
"One of the concerns facing all of us at UTSA is the need to find additional space to accommodate the growing number of students," said Jerry Barloco, vice president for administration and chair of the committee. "The committee focused its evaluation on additional workspace requirements associated with the delivery of student services that are located in JPL's first floor. In order to provide some degree of convenience for our students at minimal costs during this interim period, the committee looked for space adjacent to existing services."
To minimize the cost of reconfiguration and keep essential student services in the same area, the committee recommends the conversion of the faculty and staff dining area into additional space for student programs. As a result, faculty and staff dining space would be unavailable until a University Center expansion project is completed.
Prior to implementing this change, the committee is seeking input from members
of the university community. Individuals with concerns, comments or suggestions
are encouraged to contact members of the committee or e-mail UTSA
Today or UTSA Update.
In addition to Barloco, committee members include Terri
Reynolds, chair of the Staff Council; Jim
McDonald, chair-elect of the Faculty Senate; Sarah
Russe, student affairs; David
Johnson, executive vice provost; Ysabel
Trinidad, associate vice president for business affairs; and George
Morales, director of facilities services.
