International educators conference features two UTSA panelists

(May 28, 2002)--The 54th Annual NAFSA: Association of International Educators Annual Conference taking place this week May 26-31 at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center features two panelists representing the University of Texas at San Antonio. The event will bring to San Antonio some 5,000 admissions professionals, English as a second language teachers, foreign student advisers, study-abroad advisers, government officials and others involved with international education and exchange student programs.

Paul Rodriguez, professor of genetics in the College of Sciences will speak about his experiences as a Fulbright Scholar living in Honduras in 1963 and Costa Rica in 2000. Victor Vieyra, a UTSA master's student in business administration, was a Fulbright Student from Mexico from 2000-2002. Barry Ballow, U.S. Department of State Director of the Office of Academic Exchange Programs, will serve as panel moderator.

Panelists will speak for ten minutes addressing the benefits and impact the Fulbright Program had on their lives, both professionally and personally, and then will answer audience questions.

The conference provides the opportunity to create a unique crossroads for representatives of colleges and universities, government and private agencies, educational associations, corporations and foundations, to meet and share innovative ideas and practices on the future of international education.

Coinciding with the conference, the UTSA admissions office will hold an open house May 28-31 in the Downtown Campus Visitor's Center, located in Frio Street Building. Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. each day. Although information for international students will be emphasized at the open house, all prospective UTSA students and their parents will be welcomed. For more information, call (210) 458-2808 or 458-2714.
