Sociedad Peruana and Business Technology gifts help students
(May 22, 2002)--UTSA students will benefit from the generosity of the Sociedad Peruana de San Antonio and the Business Technology Center (BTC). Both the association and the downtown San Antonio business have made recent contributions for scholarships.
The Sociedad Peruana de San Antonio gave $2,500 with an additional pledge of $1,500 to establish the Peruvian Scholarship Fund. To qualify for the scholarships, recipients must be born in Peru or of Peruvian descent (meaning that either one or both parents is/are Peruvian); be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student as a graduate or undergraduate and actively pursuing a degree at UTSA; and be in good academic standing with a 2.5 grade point average.
Students must submit photocopies of their J1 or F1 visa as documentation. The value of each scholarship will be $1,000 per academic year with $500 for fall and spring semesters.
The BTC, which is located adjacent to the Downtown Campus, has donated to the Downtown Scholarship Initiative annually since 1998, contributing a total of $15,000.
Maxwell Young, executive director of the BTC, said, "From the very beginning, the UTSA Downtown Campus and the BTC developed a wonderful relationship, and we are pleased that in a small way we have been able to contrbute to the scholarship fund for the benefit of our young people."
