Texas demographer to speak at UTSA Nov. 14

(Nov. 11, 2002)—Steve Murdock, Regents professor and chair of the Texas A&M Department of Rural Sociology, will speak at UTSA at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 14 in Humanities and Social Sciences Building Room 2.01.24 on the 1604 Campus. The lecture is free and open to all.

Murdock, who was appointed the official state demographer of Texas by Gov. Rick Perry, will present "The Population of Texas: Historical Patterns and Future Trends Affecting Education."

His presentation will examine the implications of change in the rates of population growth, the aging of the population, the increase in minority populations and the change in household composition for the private and public sectors in Texas in the 21st century.

Murdock holds a doctorate in demography and sociology from the University of Kentucky and is the author of 10 books and more than 150 articles and technical reports on the implications of current and future demographic and socioeconomic change.
