UTSA and Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center host four writers
(Nov. 20, 2002)--UTSA and the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center's Inter-American Bookfair and Literary Festival will co-sponsor two literary events Thursday, Nov. 21 at UTSA.
Writers Alejandro Murguia and Raul Salinas will speak from 12:30 to1:45 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Downtown Campus in Buena Vista Street Building Room 1.326.
Writers Marjorie Agosin and Maria Espinosa will speak from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Nov. 21 at the 1604 Campus in Humanities and Social Sciences Building Room 3.04.28.
Murguia, a professor in the Department of Raza Studies at San Francisco State University, is author of "This War Called Love," "Southern Front" and editor of "Volcan: Poems from Central America, a Bilingual Anthology."
Salinas is owner of Resistencia Books/Casa de Red Salmon Press in Austin. He wrote the books "Viaje/Trip, Un Trip through the Mind Jail y Otras Excursiones" and "East of the Freeway," and 2 CDs "Los Many Mundos of raulrsalinas" and "Beyond the Beaten Path."
A poet, novelist and essayist, Agosin's works include "The Angel of Memory/El angel de la memoria," "A Cross and a Star: Memoirs of a Jewish Girl in Chile," "Always from Somewhere Else: A Memoir of My Chilean Jewish Father," "The Alphabet in My Hands: A Writing Life," "A Dream of Light and Shadow: Portraits of Latin American Women Writers," "Tapestries of Hope, Threads of Love: The Arpillera Movement in Chile, 1974-1994," "The House of Memory: Jewish Stories for Jewish Women of Latin America" and "A Map of Hope: Women Writers and Human Rights."
Espinosa is author of the novels "Longing," "Dark Plums" and "Incognito: A Secret Jew's Journey."
