(Oct. 29, 2002)--San Antonio City Councilwoman Bonnie Conner and the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce hosted a tour of City Council District 8 Tuesday, Oct. 29, that ended with a luncheon at the UTSA 1604 Campus. Hosted by UTSA President Ricardo Romo, the luncheon was in honor of the City Council District 8 scholarship program and student scholarship recipients. The luncheon was also attended by 30 business leaders who are also members of the Chamber. The event was co-sponsored by Gen. Gene Habiger, San Antonio Water System; Melton Randall, City Public Service; Jerry Fuentes, SBC Communications; and Kenny Wilson, Bank of America representative and chair-elect of the Greater San Antonio Chamber.

Twenty District 8 students in the top 20 percent of their high school classes have received the scholarships. They receive $1,000 per semester which is renewable up to four years by maintaining academic standing.
