Alcohol Awareness Week events to educate and entertain

(Oct. 15, 2002)--The student organization FACES (Finding Awareness by Creating Educated Students) and the UTSA Alcohol and Other Drugs/Crime Prevention Task Force are sponsoring National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week (NCAAW), Oct. 18-24.

The entire UTSA community is invited to the events, which are centered on the goal of offering healthier choices regarding the use of alcohol. Events will include "mocktail" refreshments, Drunk Driving 101, giveaway items, information tables and music provided by a local radio station. A schedule of events follows.

FACES is part of a nationwide peer education network designed to educate students about how to make better choices in their lives. A goal of the organization is to facilitate a sense of community and to encourage students to participate in campus life.

Organized by UTSA Counseling Services in 1996, FACES promotes university resources that can help students get through difficult times, conducts educational presentations, performs educational skits, distributes educational brochures and conducts discussion sessions. Topics included in their educational efforts include alcohol and drug abuse, safer sex, HIV/AIDS, multicultural issues and date rape.

For more information, contact Heather Ambrose, UTSA Counseling Services, at (210) 458-4140.
