College of Business Scholarship Salute reception

College of Business honors scholarship recipients

(Oct. 15, 2002)--Forty-one College of Business students were recognized recently during the college's annual Scholarship Salute. The event honors College of Business scholarship recipients and recognizes the donors who provide the scholarship support. The scholarship reception allows donors and scholarship recipients to meet and develop mentoring relationships.

Alex Castaneda, director of advancement, led the program which included remarks from Dean Bruce Bublitz. Scholarship recipients Brandi Banks, Roxanne Cardenas and Sally Howington were featured speakers.

A three-member faculty committee judges applications and selects recipients. For the 2002-2003 academic year, 51 scholarships totaling $63,000 were awarded. Honorees included 38 undergraduates and three graduate students. Their average grade point average was 3.52 on a 4.0 scale.

There are 28 different active scholarships within the College of Business. Fourteen of these are endowed. Awards are made in the fall and are divided equally between the two semesters. Recipients must meet grade and hour requirements to receive the remainder of the award amounts. Students may earn more than one award. In addition to this general pool, individual departments also award scholarships.
