UTSA among top agencies in minority business expenditures
(Oct. 18, 2002)--The University of Texas at San Antonio ranks No. 3 among state agencies in the total percentage of purchases for fiscal year 2002 from historically underutilized businesses (HUBs).
The ranking is according to the Texas Building and Procurement Commission, which lists the top 25 agencies reporting expenditures in excess of $5 million. UTSAs expenditures were $ 31,255,962, with $8,325,701 or 26.64 percent spent with HUBs.
UTSA continues to increase its support of historically underutilized businesses, and I thank everyone at the university for taking part in the HUB Program, said UTSA President Ricardo Romo. As one of the fastest growing universities in the state, it is important for UTSA to take a leadership role in supporting HUBs.
Three other University of Texas components also made the top 25 list: Dallas (6th) Brownsville (11th), Arlington (17th) and Pan American (18th). Topping the list was the Texas Tomorrow Fund, which expended $ 2,716,013 (32.43 percent) of an $ 8,374,887 total with HUBs.
