UTSA names director of K-16 Initiatives
(Oct. 24, 2002)--Ricardo Gonzalez has been named director for the University of Texas at San Antonio Office of K-16 Initiatives, which coordinates student and professional development outreach programs and provides leadership in education reform of local public schools.
In the position, Gonzalez, who in 1999 served UTSA as assistant director of the New Student Admissions office, will enhance the university's collaboration with schools and communities from throughout San Antonio and South Texas.
"I am extremely excited about this opportunity to rejoin the UTSA family," said Gonzalez. "It is amazing to see how much the university has changed in a short time."
In addition to UTSA, the Rio Grande Valley native's career includes experience with the Texas A&M University System, Our Lady of the Lake University and the Texas Education Agency. Gonzalez' university experience includes counseling and teaching a course for new students on succeeding in college.
A first-generation college graduate, he has assumed a leadership role in assisting underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students and school districts in areas such as undergraduate admissions, financial aid, summer enrichment, academic advising, outreach programs, grant-funding programs and recruitment.
Gonzalez earned both a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's
degree in education administration at Texas A&M University in College
Station.
