Pharmaceutical researcher to speak at UTSA Oct. 7
(Oct. 4, 2002)--The UTSA College of Sciences will host Braham Shroot, chief scientific officer of DFB Pharmaceutical Inc., who will speak at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7 in the Science Building Room 2.02.10 on the 1604 Campus. The presentation, "Current Directions in Research and Development at DPT Laboratories," is sponsored by the Department of Chemistry and is open to the public.
Shroot has been involved throughout his career in the study of the biochemistry and pharmacology of the skin, including the design of new agents for the treatment of psoriasis and acne. He was the first inventor named on a patent for Adapalene, a medication for acne treatment.
Along with being a successful inventor, Shroot has co-authored more than 250 publications and serves as co-editor of the series "Pharmacology and the Skin." He is an editorial board member of the Journal of the Investigative Dermatology and is a board member of the Society of Investigative Dermatology.
Shroot received his Ph.D. in organic chemistry at the University of Glasgow and spent three years at Harvard University in chemical research before joining Pfizer and later the L'Oreal Galderma Research and Development Center in New Jersey. After 20 years at Galderma, Shroot joined DPT Laboratories as vice president of research and development
