You can do magic... and support women's athletics walk
(Oct. 11, 2002)--With the annual State Farm Insurance/ UTSA Walk for Women's Athletics just under a month away, fund-raising activities supporting the effort are in full swing. On Monday, Oct. 14, don't miss the JPL Offices' Holiday Magic Market Day from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in the John Peace Library Building (JPL) Regents' Room. President Ricardo Romo and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Lynn Hickey are set to be the first "customers" to patronize the market at 11 a.m.
Sponsored by several departments and offices in JPL, the event will feature foods such as Frito pie, nachos and baked goods; holiday items; arts; crafts; and a silent auction. Auction items include a lunch for 10 prepared by Expo Gourmand's Silver Medal Chef Miguel Pena.
Also on tap is the Modern Languages and Literatures' Breakfast Taco Sale, which begins 7:30 a.m. Oct. 16, at the 1604 Campus Humanities and Social Sciences Building 4th floor. Potato and egg, chorizo and egg, sausage and egg, and bean and cheese tacos will be sold for $1 each, with coffee and juice also available. Treat your boss on Bosses' Day! Advance orders will be taken until noon Tuesday, Oct. 15. To place advance orders, or call (210) 458-5226 or e-mail.
The English, classics and philosophy team's doughnuts, coffee and bookmarks will be sold each morning next week in the department (Humanities and Social Sciences Building Room 4.03.02) beginning at 8 a.m. The sale goes on until everything is sold. Coffee and doughnuts will be sold for 50 cents each, and bookmarks for $2. For more information, call (210) 458-5336.
Sign up now to be a team captain for the Walk for Women's Athletics, which will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 9 in the PE Building downstairs gyms and at the track. The event will include a health fair, door prizes, silent auction, hamburger cookout and awards for teams and individuals who raise the most money for scholarships for female student athletes. Individual first prize is two round-trip tickets to anywhere in the 48 contiguous states. For a brochure or more information, contact Alice Hutson at (210) 458-4182.
