Guidelines for submission of designs for 9/11 memorials
Submission of design plans for the two permanent UTSA 9/11 memorials is open to UTSA students, faculty, staff and alumni. There will be one memorial at the 1604 Campus (outdoor location) and one at the Downtown Campus (outdoor or indoor location). Project funding will be provided by UTSA and fund-raising activities coordinated by the UTSA September 11 Committee.
- Designs can be for a mural, sculpture, bench, tapestry or other item, but must be no larger than five feet long, five feet wide and six feet high.
- Submissions must be in writing and include a plan sketch and a cover page with name and contact information. A sample cover page can be obtained from the Office of Student Leadership and Cultural Programs.
- Submit design plans to: UTSA Office of Student Leadership and Cultural Programs, University Center Room 1.02.08, 1604 Campus, Attn: Ann Margaret Trujillo
- Submission deadline is 5 p.m., Monday, Nov. 11, 2002.
Submissions become the property of UTSA. UTSA reserves the right to alter or modify projects to comply with university policies and procedures.
Ideas will be reviewed by the September 11 Memorial Committee. The top four ideas from each category (1604 and Downtown) will be selected and the designers notified. At that point, a projected budget will be requested from the finalists. A second review will be conducted that will select two plans for each memorial (1604 and Downtown). The UTSA community will vote in March 2003 to determine the two final designs.
The start date for the project is March 11, 2003, which would allow six months before the Sept. 11, 2003 dedication for purchasing, creating, constructing or installing the memorials.
