Academic III construction phase 1 nears completion

(Sept. 10, 2002)--Construction Phase I of Academic III Building, which began in mid-August, is expected to be complete by Friday, Sept. 13. The original Sept. 6 target date for Phase I completion was not met due to rain. In an effort to accommodate Phase II, parking Lot 4A will no longer be available. Lot 4A is a small lot at the south side of Lot 4. Lot 4 is across the street from the John Peace Library Building (JPL) and the Business Building.

Phase I brought the closing of the circle drive in front of JPL and part of Lot 4. Lot 4 (north) will be exclusively for 24-hour reserved parking, faculty/staff A and B, and handicapped parking. Student parking is relocated to recently constructed Lots 1, 6, 8 and 10, with a net increase of 250 student spaces compared to spaces available last spring.

Student, faculty and staff parking is also available at Fiesta Texas on the north side of Loop 1604. Free shuttles run every 10 minutes, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday between the 1604 Campus and the Fiesta Texas special parking area.

With Lot 4 (south) and 4A closed, drivers can access JPL through the Business Building (BB) via a pedestrian crosswalk from parking Lot 4 (north) to the BB. Once inside the BB, pedestrians can proceed to the second floor and either use the corridor 2.03 or exit the back door of the BB and turn left into the Sombrilla entrance of the JPL. Alternate access to JPL also includes the bridge walk between the BB and the Humanities and Social Sciences Building (HSS) from Lot 3.
