UTSA College of Sciences hosts NSF biological research speaker
(Sept. 13, 2002)--The University of Texas at San Antonio's College of Sciences welcomes Judith Verbeke, deputy director of Integrative Biology and Neuroscience, National Science Foundation (NSF) for a presentation at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16 in the Biosciences Building Room 3.03.02 on the 1604 Campus.
Verbeke's presentation, Frontiers in Integrative Biological Researchis
an important new NSF BIO initiative expected to have $12 million available
for awards in 2003. Frontiers in Integrative Biological Research (FIBR) supports
integrative research that enables significant new advances in biological understanding.
The program will fund groups of researchers who will capitalize on synergistic
interactions and employ the diverse tools necessary to understand complex,
multidimensional issues in the biological sciences. Particularly encouraged
is the inclusion of young scientists trained in interdisciplinary environments
or in non-biological disciplines.
The FIBR program also encourages partnerships with community colleges, institutions
not currently receiving NSF support and minority-serving institutions.
