UTSA Downtown Campus receives 'Downtown's Best' award

(April 8, 2003)--The University of Texas at San Antonio received the Downtown Alliance's "Downtown's Best" award April 3 in the category of Best Academic and Public Service Programs - Wildcard. UTSA was recognized for its numerous educational and cultural activities in the downtown area.

"I am very pleased with the award that we received from the Downtown Alliance," said Jesse Zapata, UTSA Downtown Campus vice provost and College of Public Policy dean. "The San Antonio community has embraced the Downtown Campus, and we are very appreciative of that support."

Built as a bridge between UTSA and the diverse neighborhoods and cultures of San Antonio, the Downtown Campus hosts a number of state, national and international academic conferences. The campus sponsors the UTSA Downtown Campus Speaker Series featuring internationally known speakers focusing on urban issues that appeal across all disciplines and are of interest to the metropolitan community.

The mission of the Downtown Alliance is to protect and enhance the values and usage of downtown properties and businesses by making downtown an exciting place to live, work, shop, play and be entertained.
