Judge Nelson Wolff speaks at UTSA ACE scholars event

(April 30, 2003)--The University of Texas at San Antonio recently hosted an event at the Downtown Campus to announce increased support for the Access College and Excel (ACE) scholars program and to recognize ACE scholarship recipients.

Bexar County Judge Nelson W. Wolff announced at the event that the program has increased its scholarships from 24 to 50 due to recent donations. One thousand dollars goes to each scholarship recipient.

The ACE program is a collaborative effort between USAA and UTSA to provide access to higher education for students who attend Memorial, Lanier, Brackenridge, Kennedy, Fox Tech, Sam Houston, Jefferson, Highlands and Harlandale high schools. Students from the program have the opportunity to sharpen their academic skills to succeed in college and develop support and camaraderie networks.

"The ACE program provides essential support for UTSA students primarily from high schools near the UTSA Downtown Campus," said Rosalie Ambrosino, vice president for student affairs. "Partnerships such as ACE are crucial to the future success of these students and the future of our community."

All ACE scholars take 12 college level hours at the UTSA Downtown Campus, including a core curriculum course chosen by the ACE scholars program staff. Additionally, ACE scholars will be enrolled in the College Success Seminar, a course designed to help students enhance study skills and promote their success at UTSA.
