UTSA Spring 2003 Commencement set for Saturday, May 10

(April 30, 2003)--More than 1,700 graduation candidates representing six UTSA colleges and the School of Architecture are expected to participate in the three UTSA Spring 2003 Commencement ceremonies May 10 at the Convocation Center on the UTSA 1604 Campus. Each ceremony will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable educational channel 19.

Hector Barreto
, administrator for the Small Business Administration, is the featured keynote speaker at the 1 p.m. commencement ceremony for the College of Business and the College of Engineering.

Barreto, experienced in the corporate sector and the small business community, directs the Small Business Administration which has issued more than $45 billion in disaster loans. Barreto served as vice chairman of the board for the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and was recognized as one of America's "100 Most Influential Hispanics" by Hispanic Business magazine.

State Rep. Ken Mercer is the keynote speaker at the 9 a.m. commencement ceremony for the College of Liberal and Fine Arts, College of Public Policy and the School of Architecture.

Yvonne Katz, superintendent of the Spring Branch ISD, will deliver the final keynote address at the 5 p.m. ceremony recognizing graduates of the College of Education and Human Development and the College of Sciences.
