Extra Mile Award: Kevin T. Bryan keeps things running smoothly
(April 10, 2003)--Kevin T. Bryan, administrative assistant in the Department of Sociology, will be honored with the Extra Mile Award, one of five presented next week at the UTSA Staff Excellence Awards ceremony.
All UTSA staff members are invited to attend the event hosted by President Ricardo Romo at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in the University Center Laurel Room (2.01.28). Downtown Campus and Institute of Texan Cultures staff members can attend the event utilizing VIA bus 94 at no charge by showing their UTSACard.
The Extra Mile Award recognizes individuals who contribute to the success of their respective departments and UTSA through initiative, creativity and innovation in the work place.
The ceremony will include other staff recognition, 5-35 year service pin recipients and refreshments. Twenty-four staff members will be honored on their retirements and nearly 200 staff members will receive service awards. Service awards are for the 2002 calendar year.
The five Staff Excellence Awards recognize excellent work performance in emerging leadership, dynamic leadership, teamwork, extraordinary initiative and overall excellence. The awards are: Rising Star Award, Leadership Award, Team Spirit Award, Extra Mile Award and Order of the Roadrunner Award.

Extra Mile Award winner
Kevin T. Bryan, a UTSA staff member for eight years, has the ability to uplift others -- a quality that is essential to a productive and efficient working group. His good nature in the morning plus the great coffee he grinds, often make the difference in how many people begin the day on the fourth floor of the Multidisciplinary Studies Building.
When Bryan meets someone new in the college or department, they hear him say, "The only thing I can't help you with is what you don't ask for."
His dependability can be seen in his early arrival each day and in his ability
and willingness to fix machines and computers at a moment's notice. Bryan
has a reputation for giving completely of his time, knowledge and resources
to make the department run smoothly and to help students, faculty and staff.
A common sentiment in his department is, "If I need something, it's there;
if I need something done, it's done quickly."
He is the resident expert on technology and assists many in the College of
Liberal and Fine and Fine Arts and other colleges. Bryan is known for his
knowledge of computer shortcuts and remedial procedures that have helped many
complete their projects.
He has been integrally involved in creating and maintaining COLFA Web sites and maintains the server for the social and behavioral sciences. He often demonstrates creative initiative in seeking the most cost-effective means to keep equipment operating or to procure new or used equipment. He regularly searches the Internet for freeware and inexpensive software to meet the needs of faculty and staff, while keeping the departmental budget in mind.
His dedication, professionalism and conscientious attitude show he is always willing to "go the extra mile" for UTSA!
