UTSA names associate director of Prefreshman Engineering Program
(April 14, 2003)--The University of Texas at San Antonio has named John Romo as associate director for the Prefreshman Engineering Program (PREP).
PREP is a mathematics-based academic program designed for middle and high school students with an interest in math, science, engineering and technology.
"Working with PREP has been a very meaningful experience," says Romo, who has worked with PREP for several summers.
"I am privileged to be part of a dedicated staff that helps young people pursue education in engineering, science and mathematics-related areas, especially this year as we prepare for PREP's 25th anniversary."
A longtime San Antonio resident, Romo served on the UTSA mathematics faculty in the late 1970s.
Additionally, he conducted analyses and technology integration for application of advanced computer technologies at Kelly Air Force Base, worked with intelligent tutoring systems, human factors modeling and analytical studies at Brooks Air Force Base, and was a strategic planning and analysis consultant for nonprofit organizations.
He received his doctorate in mathematics from Oklahoma State University.
