ITC junior docents

UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures implements new hours Aug. 15

(Aug. 1, 2003)--UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures (ITC) will implement new hours of operation effective Aug. 15.

The ITC will be open to the public Tuesday through Thursday, and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (through Dec. 2003) and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.

"Many of our visitors have expressed an interest in visiting the ITC during the evening, so we would like to welcome our guests to a fun and educational experience by extending our hours on Friday," said Rex Ball, executive director of the institute.

One of three University of Texas at San Antonio campuses, the ITC is an educational center focusing on Texas history and cultures.

On display at ITC through Oct. 27 is "A Tejano Son of Texas," which describes the life a Texas Tejano pioneer, Jose Policarpio "Polly" Rodriguez. The exhibit is sponsored by the City of San Antonio Office of Cultural Affairs and created and sponsored by TexasTejano.com. A reception will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Aug. 27 on the exhibit floor at the ITC. For more information or to RSVP by Aug. 20, call 210-458-2257.

On display Aug. 12-Nov. 9 is "Videotopia." Sponsored in part by Blockbuster Inc., the exhibit explores the history of video games with informational displays and features more than 50 restored and new arcade video games. Once visitors see the exhibit and answer questions correctly they can win tokens and play games such as Space Invaders, Tempest and Donkey Kong. The official kickoff will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Aug. 15 featuring a free evening of food, fun and games. Sponsored in part by Budweiser and Big Red/7UP Bottling Co., this event is open to the public. The following admission fees are effective Aug. 12: $6.50, adults; $3, children (3-12 years); $4, seniors (65 years or older); $4, military personnel with ID; and free, members, UTSA students and employees and children 2 years and under.
