Academic Building III construction hits halfway mark

(Aug. 19, 2003)--Construction on 240,000-square-foot Academic Building III at the UTSA 1604 Campus is 50-percent complete. To mark the milestone, a tree was planted on the fourth floor, as is customarily done when contractors work on the highest point of a building.

With a scheduled completion date of April 2004, the building will provide classrooms, lecture halls, specialized teaching labs and academic support offices. Classes in the facility will begin Fall 2004.

According to Bob Evans, UT System Office of Facilities Planning and Construction, construction of the building is on time and on budget.

Utilizing 50 contractors primarily from the San Antonio and Austin areas, BFW Contractors reports there have been no loss-of-time injuries on the job.
