UTSA athletics administrator to serve as Olympics press liaison

(Aug. 6, 2003)--Rick Nixon, UTSA assistant athletics director for media relations, has been named by the United States Olympics Committee (USOC) to serve as a press officer at the 2003 Summer World University Games in Daegu, South Korea, Aug. 21-31.

As a press officer at the games, Nixon will serve as the primary media contact for the swimming and diving venues.

Entering his 17th year in charge of sports information at UTSA, Nixon directs publicity efforts for all 14 sports at the university, while also serving as play-by-play announcer for UTSA men's basketball and the lead announcer during UTSA television games. Nixon has been the radio play-by-play broadcaster for the past 14 seasons.

He also serves as the media coordinator for UTSA-hosted NCAA championship events held in San Antonio.

Nixon has worked as the local media coordinator for the 1998 Men's Final Four and the 2002 Women's Final Four, as well as the men's basketball regionals in 1997, 2001 and 2003.
