OIT takes measures to prevent spread of computer virus
(Aug. 15, 2003)--The Offfice of Information Technology encourages the UTSA Tri-Campus community to shut down their computers by the end of the Friday workday. OIT makes the request because computers still infected with the Lovsan.Worm virus might launch denial-of-service attacks against the Microsoft Windows Update Web site beginning at 12 a.m. Saturday morning.
To minimize the chance of UTSA systems participating in this attack, all UTSA faculty and staff are asked to comply with the request. Faculty and staff working over the weekend are reminded to turn off their computers before leaving.
OIT personnel conducted office visits last week to install corrective patches to 200 infected computers out of more than 7,000 on the UTSA campuses.
OIT also recommends to those running Windows on their home computers or laptops to download the corrective virus patch immediately. Only OIT personnel are authorized to perform the corrective measures on UTSA campuses.
