Engineering dean receives Women's Chamber of Commerce award
(Feb. 3, 2003)--University of Texas at San Antonio College of Engineering Dean Zorica Pantic-Tanner was honored last week with the San Antonio Women's Chamber of Commerce 2003 Entrepreneurial Woman of the Year award.
At left, Diane Carmenaty, chair of the San Antonio Women's Chamber of Commerce presents the award to Pantic-Tanner. The chamber promotes the growth and economic development of women and assists in the integration of women into leadership roles.
According to Carmenaty, Pantic-Tanner was selected for a number of reasons, including the marketing and networking relations she has developed in the short time she has been in San Antonio.
"She introduced herself to us early last year and wasted no time in sharing her goals and her character with our organization," said Carmenaty.
"Running a college is very much like running a business," said Pantic-Tanner. "We are in the business of transferring and improving engineering knowledge, and our production assets are our excellent faculty. Our customers are the employers of our graduates and our students are both our customers and our excellent product."
UTSA College of Business alumnus Jeanie Wyatt, CEO of South Texas Money Management, was named the chamber's 2003 Corporate Woman of the Year. Her organization has received international status by managing more than $160 million and doubling its size since inception.
