UTSA tri-campuses open today at 11 a.m. due to weather

(Feb. 26, 2003)--All UTSA campuses and classes will open today, Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. due to weather conditions.

UTSA campuses and classes were closed Tuesday, Feb. 25 due to the icy conditions in the San Antonio area.

For the latest information on UTSA closings, call (210) 458-SNOW (7669).

According to UTSA Police Chief George Powers, the decision-making process for closing or delaying the opening of campuses begins at approximately 4 a.m.

"Many factors enter into the decision," Powers said, "but in the end the safety and well-being of students, faculty and staff are the ultimate motivation."

"I begin checking television broadcasts and weather-related Web sites for road closures and other data to be considered," said Powers. "Once the most current information is gathered, I contact the vice president for business affairs, who confers with the president to make a decision."

When the decision is made, the business affairs vice president informs Powers, who then notifies the assistant vice president for communications. If a decision is made to close, the communications office notifies local media and the 458-SNOW message is updated.
