Chancellor encourages faculty to complete satisfaction survey
(Feb. 18, 2003)--The UT System Faculty Advisory Council and UT Chancellor Mark Yudof recently issued via e-mail a letter encouraging faculty members to complete an on-line Faculty Satisfaction Survey. The Yudof letter is reprinted below.
James McDonald, chair of the Faculty Senate and interim chair of anthropology, and Mansour El-Kikhia, secretary of the General Faculty and associate professor of political science, want to be sure that all faculty received the e-letter and strongly encourage them to complete the Web-based survey.
"We want to stress the importance of providing feedback," said McDonald. "Faculty response to the survey makes a difference."
"It's important to remember that previous surveys have brought significant improvements in university operations affecting faculty members," El-Kikhia said.
For more information, contact McDonald at (210) 458-4673.

Dear UT System Faculty Member:
In March 1993, The University of Texas System Faculty Advisory Council undertook
its first Faculty Satisfaction Survey. The findings from that survey resulted
in significant changes in the operation of the academic and medical components
of the UT System, e.g., clarifications and alterations in tenure procedures
were made, support services for faculty were increased and core committees
for women and minorities were established.
Since 1993, additional advances have taken place on UT System campuses. I
am pleased to announce that the Faculty Advisory Council, which is comprised
of two representatives from each campus and is charged with recommending to
me and to the Board of Regents ways in which the System might improve, is
about to undertake a new Faculty Satisfaction Survey.
With the financial support of the System, the Faculty Advisory Council has contracted Digital Research Inc. (DRI) of Kennebunk, Maine, to conduct the survey. Unlike the previous survey, this survey will be conducted electronically on the Web, where it will be posted from February 5 through February 28. (E-mail instructions regarding the survey will be forwarded to you from DRI).
The survey will be completely anonymous; only DRI will have access to the
unique ID numbers associated with each respondent.
The information from this survey will be important as we chart the future
of the UT System. The Faculty Advisory Council will share the aggregated data
with me, the Board of Regents, the newly formed Regents' Committee on Campus
Life, the Accountability Working Group, and the Presidents and Faculty Senates
at the various components.
I urge you to participate in this important project and to complete the survey as soon as possible.
Thank you for your willingness to participate in this valuable initiative.
With warm regards, I am
Sincerely yours,
Mark G. Yudof
Chancellor
